About me
Who I am
I am Christina Tseng, a Taiwanese American psychotherapist, astrologer, and intuitive healer. I have been born into a lifetime of hybrid identities, as a bicultural person, as a multi-passionate individual, and as someone who deeply loves to know and experience life for all the many fractals and possibilities it holds.
As a child of immigrants with the cultural trauma of colonialism, I have been born into intergenerational dynamics of countless inherited mistruths: about being unworthy, about being less-than, about needing to prove myself, about need to labor into perpetuity. About being small and unimportant, but being outrageous and impudent when I step into expression.
We as people, have millions of shards of silencing sliced into our divine souls, compounded by eons and generations of suffering. And yet, as human beings, we have the power to stop the cycle of pain, to heal ourselves, and transmute this energy we received to heal and empower ourselves and those around us.
As a Psychotherapist:
I am a Marriage and Family Therapy licensed in Maryland and Washington D.C. If you are curious about my therapeutic work, you can check out my website Therapeutic Tseng. Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) is a specific type of way of viewing therapeutic healing that fundamentally views our relationships as inter-connected. This makes it extremely compatible with the lived experiences of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) as it validates and advances the work on intergenerational trauma, and healing relationships within collectivist communities. It prioritizes the lens of systems work, which also articulates the natural balance of action and consequence. MFT is great about not feeding into polarization or pathologizing of one particular individual. If one person is seen to be be “bad or wrong”, we know there is something also “wrong or unwell” with the other members of that relationship or system. Why is this an important realization? Because we are all actually in this together. We are one family. We will not heal by ostracizing one person and refuse to look at how their suffering or their transgressions have reflected something painful in ourselves. MFT has one other strength that informs my work: it is change-focused. I inherently believe in an individual’s power to change their life and always hold that as my goal for healing.
As an Astrologer:
I began my astrology journey in college where I first voraciously consumed content on Vedic Astrology. A beginning point in my individuation journey, I sought comfort and confirmation from astrology whenever any part in my life felt like it was falling apart. From there, I began to learn and align with Hellenistic Astrology, which is another old and traditional form of astrology. This happened during the start of my Masters degree program for Marriage and Family Therapy, another point in my individual journey when I felt like my life was falling apart. I received astrology differently this time. I began to see that hard aspects in my astrological forecasting were not meant to punish me, but that they occurred to facilitate me to grow and learn. I began to see myself less a passive victim to my fate and the circumstances I was born in. I was then having a dialogue with Spirit through astrology, who through astrological language, could accurately and compassionately describe the painful circumstances I found myself in, and like a firm but loving guide, placed me in these challenges in order to transcend and ascend higher in my evolutionary journey. In 2023, I was introduced to the style of Huber Astrology. I remember my whole self instinctively affirming that learning Huber was something I wanted, without even knowing much about it. I currently study under Mark Douglas to complete my Diploma in Huber Astrological Synthesis. With the addition of Huber Astrology teachings and techniques, I have been able to fuse my psychotherapeutic background and my New Age calling together, into a supportive yet directional healing experience. As an Intuitive Healer:
Growing up in a immigrant family focused on academics and material success, having intuitive gifts was not encouraged. Being anything other than “normal” was seen as dangerous. As a Masters student learning about psychotherapy with its attempts to unilaterally align itself to science and evidence-based techniques, spiritual intuition would seemingly distance psychotherapy further from becoming respected or “legitimate” in the eyes of our society. I remember the first time I used energy healing techniques on my internship clients. My clients were either socially and economically disadvantaged or they were incarcerated. I used chakra healing techniques I had learned in a training on my client who was living on disability, feeling weak and disempowered due to the circumstances she was living in and due to her chronic illness. The next time I saw her, she was full of life and spoke of wanting to get a job. Another time, I worked with an incarcerated client who was so emotionally dysregulated in the moment that we were not able to have the couples session scheduled with his wife. I invited him into my office a few hours later and performed these chakra healing techniques. His demeanor and energy became so serene, he was unrecognizable. I recognized through these experiences, how important and essential positive energy is to all of us. And just as water and food are essentials, energy is essential as well.
As I moved through the steps to becoming a fully licensed psychotherapist, COVID began while I was provisionally licensed. I was not doing energy healing techniques for my clients because all sessions had become virtual only and I was not confident in my abilities to transmute distance healing. When I was provisionally licensed, I didn’t have the same clinical experience I have now. When I was struggling to figure out how to help my clients in sessions, I began to tap into my empathic abilities in order to accurately understand what my clients were feeling and unlock the healing conversations that needed to be had to move them forward. To make up for my lack of experience, I leaned heavily into these empathic and clairsentient abilities and became quite good at it. In my personal time, I began to work with tarot cards and connect with gods and goddesses and my higher self to receive spiritual messages. In the last few years, my clairsentient and claircognizant abilities became to grow to a point that they nudged and pushed their way into sessions with clients. I had the intention to keep my abilities separate from my clinical work, due to stigma and fear. However, I began to pick up the existence of strong emotions from not my clients, but people who my clients had relationships or problems with. I realized that these individuals yearned for my clients to know these feelings, that they likely have not been able to articulate themselves. I recognized the benefits of allowing Spirit to dissolve old walls and boundaries that would separate my abilities from my clients, and separate individuals from each other due to their limited ability to connect with each other.
